Philippines has been formally approved as a “Chapter-in-formation”

London, U.K. – July 25, 2025buildingSMART International (bSI) is pleased to announce that the Philippines has been formally approved as a "Chapter-in-formation". The latest Chapter to join the network aims to lead the adoption of open standards and digital workflows in the Philippine built environment. As a neutral, not-for-profit organization, our Chapter will promote education, innovation, and collaboration among industry stakeholders, while directly supporting the Philippine government in implementing its Construction Industry Roadmap 2020–2030 — particularly its pillars on digitalization, productivity, and sustainability.

The establishment of a buildingSMART Chapter in the Philippines confirms the 38th Chapter for buildingSMART and will lead the localization and implementation of openBIM standards while developing national capacity through professional training, certification, and knowledge-sharing events.

The Chapter will seek to:

  • Localize and implement buildingSMART's openBIM standards
  • Build capacity in BIM skills through certification, training, and events
  • Act as a national resource for government and private sector policy on digital construction
  • Foster industry-wide collaboration and interoperability
  • Strengthen the regulatory environment for BIM and digital delivery

Aidan Mercer, Marketing Director of bSI, commented, “We are delighted to welcome the Philippines as a Chapter-in-formation. This milestone reflects the growing global momentum behind openBIM and digital transformation in the built environment. By joining the buildingSMART community, the Philippines is making a strong commitment to interoperability, collaboration, and innovation which are key foundations for a more productive and sustainable construction industry. We look forward to supporting the Chapter’s efforts in advancing digital standards and building capacity across the region.”
